Students, families and school employees welcome a fresh beginning
The first day of school brings a special kind of excitement.
There are new backpacks, carefully chosen outfits, nervous parents and children eager to see their friends. Teachers welcome a new class, bus drivers begin their routes and cafeteria workers prepare the first meals of the year.
For some students, the excitement comes with a few nervous moments. Before long, unfamiliar classrooms will become familiar, new friendships will form and another year of learning will be underway.

The people who make opening day possible
Behind every opening day is a team of people who have worked to prepare for the arrival of Manassas students.
Custodians have cleaned classrooms and hallways. Office employees are helping families find answers. Cafeteria workers are preparing meals, bus drivers are learning their routes, and counselors are ready to help students adjust.
Teachers, coaches, administrators, security officers, police officers, volunteers and many others also play a role in creating a safe and welcoming school experience.
Their work can have a lasting impact.
Sometimes it is the teacher who refuses to give up on a student. Sometimes it is the custodian who offers a kind word, the bus driver who greets a child every morning or the cafeteria worker who remembers a student’s name and becomes a trusted friend.
These moments may seem small, but students can remember them for the rest of their lives.
Opening day is an opportunity to thank everyone entrusted with the care and education of Manassas children. Their work may not always receive public attention, but it matters to the students and families who depend on them.
